The popularity of Thor, the Norse God of Thunder, has perhaps never been higher on the back of his appearances in a famous movie universe, and so Yggdrasil Gaming’s latest release, in collaboration with ReelPlay, pays homage to him, with Thor Infinity Reels.
Infinity Reels is a game mechanic that has been seen previously in a few games, where landing a winning combination adds an extra reel as well as brings a multiplier into play. This means that there are unlimited paylines in play as well. The game starts off with three reels and four rows, and wins are generated by landing matching symbols on all three reels. When this happens, the symbols are locked in place with another reel being added to the right of the original set.
Given that this is a game based on Norse mythology, it has an epic theme to match, with a forest battleground forming the background for the reels. There is an operatic soundtrack that accompanies the game as well and is a perfect fit for this game and its epic theme. The A to 9 card royals that show up on the reels are all styled to fit this theme as well, while the high-value symbols include a horn, a wooden shield and a Viking helmet. The most valuable symbol is a pair of axes, which is also the game’s Wild symbol and can pay out 5x if you land three on adjacent reels. Given that it is the Wild, it also substitutes for other symbols to try and create winning combinations, other than the Scatter, which is Thor’s legendary hammer, Mjolnir.
The Infinity Reels mechanic is the most rewarding feature of the game, as it can bring multipliers into play, while if you manage to add 12 reels, you will receive the Infinity Bonus, which is worth 888x of your stake. There are also four potential jackpots to be won.
Landing six or more of the hammer symbols anywhere on the reels triggers the Jackpot Respins feature. Here, the triggering symbols are locked, and three respins are awarded. Every time you land a hammer, it is locked, and the number of free respins is reset back to three. If you manage to fill a reel with hammers, a new reel is added. Once all the spins are exhausted, you get your payout, which is the total of the prizes for each hammer plus any jackpots. Each hammer symbol is worth between 1x and 100x of your total stake, while the four jackpots are worth up to 1000x of your stake –
Mini Jackpot – 10x
Minor Jackpot – 25x
Major Jackpot – 100x
Grand Jackpot – 1000x
Players can bet between 0.25 and 40 credits per spin, with the Autospin feature also allowing them to run 10, 25, 50 or 100 spins automatically at a preset betting level. This game has an RTP of 96.2%, where you can expect to get a winning combination every 3.64 spins on average. It is a high volatility game, where the maximum win possible from a single spin is 6,055x of the total stake.
This is a very impressive slot game, with the Infinity Reels mechanic providing a feature that is not commonly seen and therefore adds intrigue and value to this game. There can be some really big wins possible, but bear in mind that this is a high volatility game, so the big wins may take some time to come by. Overall, fans of Norse mythology should love this game, as will slot game fans in general.
